Somewhere in France
Dear Mother:–
I was rather sleepy and maby tired this P.M. so I slept we left camp about 6.30 for the Bull Ring and spent from 9 P.M. untill 12 A.M. there a night in the trenches and it rained about 5 P.M. so hard that we waded thru water lots of times once for about 3 rds about inche deeper than our shoe tops. but we dident care I was wishing you could see me it was as warm and we were singing songs and hollering and laughing The night went good, I put in 3 hours sentry and slept because the man I was with would not sit down at all otherwise I would have had to stand half the time, the rest of the night I slept in a dug out dry and nice, we have no idea when we will go to meet Fritz but that don’t matter we will never be content or settled again untill we have been in our first fight from which we know some will never come back. Human nature is hard to understand,
Right after dinner I washed a towel underwear socks, we have a drying room for to hang our washing in just like a chink laundry,
Burns is with me tonight he was writing to.
There is a Catholic club here that sell refreshments and tea cocoa lemonade, they sell these things lots cheaper than any other canteen or Y.M.C.A. I have only been inside once. I got to eggs two big pieces of fruit cake a big cake soap for 22¢
We have five wemen here at the S.C.A. that wait on the counter and teach the bible study class.
Well bye bye Mother dear as ever your loving son
Laurie
Give my love to all.
