Dear Mother:–

I an’t sure but I may have dated my yesterdays letter wrong.

It has tried to rain since about 3 A.M. now it is about 4 P.M. and the sun is shining I guess it may rain yet. There is no mud.

After dinner I rebuilt a top on my funk hole so as that it will shed water then I sewed on three buttons so I am ready for work party after supper and then a good snooze. I come in ready to snooze this A.M. I had realy shoveled and picked hard for quite a while I wanted to get this job done, one of our boys got napoo about thirty feet away from me the other badly wounded another died a few minuits later. we see someone knocked out each day it can’t be helped there is so much stuff looking for use that it is bound to find some one, I got a piece of skin knocked off while the excitement was on but that was all, I get a letter very nearly each day so I have a little enjoyment reading a letter after each breakfast. The mail comes in with the rations.

Dear Mother:–

You will see by this that I have not written for some days, not be cause I have been worked to hard or any such thing but the time the place and the opportunity never seem to coincide so you see the result,

I am happy dry and content in rest billets, There is a gospel service coming off in a few minuits in this y.m.c.a. I haven’t been wet yet but boys in trenches to day would have to look out or they would get wet for it has rain pretty hard several times. The scene of this letter is where my July letters were written the same old y. My front line experiences were mild this time, but weather good. Well good night Mother I will try and write a good long letter tomorrow but want this ready to go tomorrow

as ever your dearest boy     Laurie
