Dear Teddy:–
Dinner will be on in a minuite, I just came off parade. I went back to platoon today an old runner that was wounded in Aug. returned last night so he naturaly received his job back again, I felt all the time that the job hit me a little to good to last. But that is all right I am happy may get on later again I an’t taking on the M.G. section I don’t think. I want to be a scout if I can, I was a scout for one day short but sweet. The Officer that put me on was killed, The Sergeant Major said he would put me on if he got a chance I hope he don’t forget. The weather stayes warm, I guess it will right up to Xmas like it did last year in England, we don’t get but very little rain, but we get a lot of cloudy weather. The sun shone yesterday Mrs Laurie Banks sent me a dandy big box of candy a fruit cake pair of socks can of van camps soup so we all had a big feed last night. a pair of socks, soap, some gum. I never expected it. I will write them a good letter one of those days. Bob McKeith got back to Battn last night 7 weeks away he looks bigger and fatter than ever. He is a good nature nice boy. That makes four of use again from Haz. every one got issued with leather or sheep skin jerkins last night, so we all will go out warm dressed this trip. Well Ted P.M. parade is over now, it gave use a good warm shower so we came in early. I have got the two shin plaster Mother sent me and two franks besides so I havent broak yet we get paid today 25 franks
Well Ted I am paid and down town at recreation hut, I am going over and have eggs and chipps for supper tonight just just a quiet little meal by my self for a change, Then I will catch a bus and go back to the old barn that is dry and comfy. We are surely fortunate boys with our billets for we have been warm and dry all the time. We get more than we can eat and it don’t take any coaxing to get us to eat seconds if there is any left whether we are straining our belts or not. I know it is hard for mother to beleave that we have always had lots to eat and drink but we have and I would hate awfully to have gone a little hungry every time I have had surplus food, for I have had surplus food on me very nearly all the time in France.
Use you own judgement about selling any of the horses don’t ever wait to see what I think about it. I wish they were a bunch of cattle don’t you, you could get the money out of them easy then. It is getting dark now. I suppose the snow will soon stop the car traffic for this fall out there, I am afraid they could not carry on much war over here if the snow stopped the motors
Well bye bye old boy
as ever your loving
brother Laurie
