Letter to Teddy from Witley
Witley
13-3-17
Dear Teddy:– This is a chilly night but the boys say it is the first day of spring. I hope we just get a lot of sunny days now for I love the sun, and we realy don’t get much sun in the winter months here, I have been out of sorts today seemingly all day for some unknown reason, I went and feed my team in the A.M. and carried them before breakfast then I came in, in a hurry to shave and wash for breakfast, but could not find my looking glass so I got up in the air a little but I did not find it. then this P.M. I hooked up my team and they balked with the empty wagon before I got them up to the manure vat three or four times, then when I got the load they balked and when I halled it into the field and unloaded about an 8th of it they balked again so I got up on my saddle and if I dident tan the one I road but it did not do any good I had to get down again and finaly they made a jump together so I could lead them up a little, then tonight I was about 30 seconds late to fall in before the supper parade started to move in to supper, so the corporal sent me back to the end of the line the boys all laughed just I would do at any of them and I prayed to not feel mad but it was hard so feel that this day has been a rough one on me for temtation but that don’t matter when you don’t forget God, just take thing to the Lord in prayer I feel good to night and feel that there is not trouble worth any thing when you think of God in time which I am trying to do each hour.
Two boys got sent flying off a mule today You don’t know what it means to me to belong to something like this where we have a toutch of the western life Well Teddy it seem that this is a poor excuse of an answer to all the good letters I received last night, I would liked to have been at home when Joe and Aunt Hanna I would like to see that dear little baby of Alices and I must appoligize got getting his name mixed with Clives little boy I will remember that he is Francis from now I like both the names so sister can’t be offended any way
Well bye, bye. as ever your loving brother
Laurie.
