Undated Fragment Letter to Mother
[Undated fragment to Mother, summer 1917 -- page 5-6]
the christian life with the boys
I have got to send out more of my money to charities I don't need it, I know I am eating it when often I don't feel like eating and know I would be better if I dident eat. but I have such an appetit that I can eat any thing and pretty nearly enough for two men. To night is the second time this summer I feel over fed or fed up on rations. I did not tutch my cheese and only ate a little jam some bread and cold boiled beef for supper, drank some tea. Now last night I ate two big helpings full rations of rise and raisins with a big spoon full of jam on each then my bread. before I went to bed I ate some cheese and hard tack just because I wanted some thing to do after I was in bed Bob McKeith came in with his mess tin with the cover on and said Laurie are you asleep I said no he says here eat this I brot it up for Bob Banks and he would not take any thing at all Bob was sick yesterday. Well I opened it and there was steam rising it was two nice fried eggs and a feed of potatoe chips a slice of bread and butter so I had to eat it well you may see the reason why I don't feel hungry to day each of the three nights before we 3 had been together and had eggs before we come home.
Well Mother dear I must go to sleep because I was up at 2.45 A.M. but I havent done only enough to get exercise since. as ever your loving son Laurie
I can see you each day as you go about your work we have lots to be thankfull for Mother just wait a little longer remember if I am called I am ready L.
[Unable to pinpoint date; sometime before going up the line, when Laurie, Mitchel Burns and Bob McKeith had "feeds" together at a canteen.]
