Letter to Mother from Witley - 1
Witley - 5-18-17
Dear Mother:–
We are called out on draft today to leave in near future all the Hazenmore boys are on this draft but Pete Campbell he is in quarantine for some time yet.
I am being seperated from my little team but may get an other team in France we never know I have had a cupple of good months with the poneys any way. that has been a great chance and a joy to me that I never will be able to make any one quite understand.
But it don’t make any difference I can carry a pack as good as any one if that is what they want me to do I haven’t any pack yet so I don’t know yet but will know by the time I get this letter finished all the H. quarters transport are in the 46th Btn draft so we likely will get on again over there. 19th we are getting packs to cross with, I have to go over to the stable this a.m. bye bye
I just received a letter from you and one from Annie. I get a letter lots of times that beats a cupple that have been sent before you see they get on a slow boat etc. we are going out to France this time there is one way of getting any hold up it may not be 48 hours but still we have no orders. I went in to take my examination physically the Doctor you look fine, and I said yes sir there nothing wrong with me so he tested me and turned me around and said O.K. so away we go I have not had my teath worked on a bit since I enlisted and there is not a cavity in any I have been thru dental inspections twice.
We get payed a lb. today. I have 7 lbs 8 shillings or there about in the gov’t loan my book is down at Gowers in there little safe box. I would send it home but I want a little money here if I ever get back.
I am oh so glad that you are having a good long visit you never will know how much good it will do you you have to go again next fall
