Letter to Mother from Somewhere in France
November 24, 1917
I havent written any for two days I guess. I am sitting down stairs at the table the nice little stove is doing its duty, the electric light is overhead.

I have spent quite a while tonight studying the word of God. I miss so mutch a place to be alone but I will make more effort to study under these conditions I am not going neglect that one so important thing in my life.

I am sitting in my room alone the sun of noon is shining over my left shoulder and onto the pad so you can figure what side of house my room is on.

Bob Banks, McKeith Pete Campbell and I started out to get our pictures taken The photographeress informed use that we could only get that done in day light so we walked on up town into the city I guess would sound as good.
December 4, 1917
It has frozen up over here now and the dandiest fall day and clear I never expected any such weather. Especialy in war times and after war tales I had heard of how wet it was in France.

I just went out down town and bought some chocolate then I came back to the cosey little house, Teddy it is a treat to look at the taste of the upper class French every thing points to the greatest sense of refinement in the way of taste

It is 5.30 P.M. Supper is over and I was out in the yard a minuite ago washing, heinie come over and pushed over board about a dozen bombs you could here the excitement among the french families

Supper is over and I have just eaten two apples I got a lads supper for him he has been off his feed for several days, I spent most of P.M. in cleaning up so I will be ready for any inspection that may come off in the near future.

In post I received I see how real the pictures are of the front line, to what they realy are in reality.

I came in off a work party about 2 O.K. Xmas morning and roled into bed, the bed consisted of two oil sheets and three single blankets between two of us.

The boys are out for a rifle inspection so I thot I would spend a few mi. writing you. At noon I opened a can of Plum pudding from Miss Christie
